Are choppers really safe for flying?

Andhra Pradesh chief Minister Dr Y S Rajasekhara Reddy`s death has asked hundreds of questions to the whole country. This is not the first time we have lost a valuable person in chopper/Air crash. One question comes in our mind "Are choppers really safe?". History shows that accidents in choppers are much frequent to accidents in commercial aircrafts.

Here is the list of Honorable Leaders, who have lost their lives in Air Crash --

1. YSR's chopper September 2009
2. Sanjay Gandhi 1980
3. Madhavrao Scindia 30 Sep 2001
4. G.M.C. Balayogi March 3, 2002
5. S. Mohan Kumaramangalam 1973
6. O.P. Jindal 2005.
7. Surendra Singh 2005.
8. Dera Natung May 2001
9. C. Sangma September 2004

The main question is why?

-- Due to technical Issues with Aircraft/Chopper
-- Pilot/human mistake
-- weather
-- Non compliance of flying standards
-- Visual Flight Rules (VFR) over Instrument Flight Rules (IFR)
-- Chalta hai Concept
